September 29 is History Day at the Greenfield Historical Society's complex on McArthur Way in Greenfield. On that day the Society's buildings will be open with special displays of Greenfield's history along with other activities for the public to enjoy.
We will be presenting some of the old photographs of Greenfield in Travellers Rest. Many of these photos have never been displayed before. In the Smith Tannery will be an exhibit of the Society's vintage clothing, textiles and also kitchen articles.
The Red Barn will be open so visitors can view the society's agricultural and transportation artifacts. On display will be two buggies built by the Patterson Buggy Works and the Conestoga wagon that carried the possessions of the James Wilson family on their trek to Greenfield in 1799.
The B&O Depot will have its usual train and military display. Also on exhibit will be Tom Adam's model train display. Mr. Adams will be on hand to talk to visitors about his display and how he is recreating Greenfield at an earlier time.
The Grain and Hay building will have a display of World War II magazines pictures from the collections of Jack Bryant. This display in conjunction with "World War II In Greenfield's Words", the society's project to preserve the memories of residents who lived in or near Greenfield during World War II.
In addition to the special displays, other activities will be available for visitors. There will be many crafters on site demonstrating their skills. Many will have articles to purchase. A farmer's market is being planned for the day. There will also be spaces for the set up of attic sales where people can sell their unneeded items.
Food for the day will be ham and bean soup with cornbread. Also available will be hot dogs, drinks and dessert.

| This wagon carried the family and possession of James Wilson to Ohio in 1799. Wilson was born in Scotland and lived in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, until he moved his family to Buckskin Township, Ross County, just a few miles east of Greenfield.
