Volunteer Session - May 27, 2017

We convened again on May 27th to continue work on the cemetery. Scott and Venus Andersen, John King, Patsy Smith, Jackie Doles and Diane Zimmerman spent almost 6 hours straightening a number of stones, cleaning stones, repairing an above ground box and attempting to identify burials by studying the very worn inscriptions. We thank them all for making such a difference in the cemetery. Wendy Royse, society President, also stopped by to see the progress.

Many thanks to ALL the volunteers who help throughout the years making this a very successful project.

More sessions will be planned for the future to continue this massive effort. If you would like to participate, give the Society a call and check our website calendar.

John began by continuing to straighten this row of small headstones.

Result, now they look much better.

Scott and Diane identify a set of markers to clean.

Diane doing an excellent job cleaning the headstones.

Scott exposed and raised the base to this headstone and he and Jackie reinstalled the marker.

Now it just needs to sit for awhile to complete the process.

Patsy is cleaning the top of an above ground box. The inscriptions were very worn but due to the size of the stone we assumed it might have been for young children.

We were all intrigued and wanted to decipher the inscription. Venus is rubbing thin aluminum foil over the words to see if that would help in the identification process. After much analyzing, we determined they were the young son and daughter of the McWilliams family.

A couple more were lifted up a little and leveled.

Jackie finishes the day by working on a veteran's marker.
