Volunteer Session - April 22, 2018

This was our first official work session at the Old Burying Ground for 2018. It was overcast and a bit cool getting started but we made a big difference. We focused on doing some straightening of some of the markers that had shifted a little due to the winter freezing and thawing of the ground, tackled more stones that needed realigned, cleaned stones, and made some major repairs. Joining in were Scott and Venus Andersen, John King, Jackie Doles, and Mike Anderson.

Many thanks to ALL the volunteers who help throughout the years making this a very successful project.

More sessions will be planned for the future to continue this massive effort. If you would like to participate, check our website calendar for the next scheduled session.

Jackie and Mike prepare a broken stone for repair.

Venus cleans another stone.

Some of the above ground boxes needed some repairs.

Scott and Venus discuss progress.

Scott and John got this one looking better.

Of course there is always digging!

Sometimes the digging is minimal.

Other times, as Mike and Jackie found out, the digging can be more challenging.

But they were determined to get the base lifted and leveled and ready to reinstall the marker.

What a great job by Mike and Jackie!

Minor effort required to get this one looking better.

Two more better aligned now.

These two were very difficult to decipher the inscriptions.

Plenty of work remaining to preserve the cemetery as this partial view indicates.
